We have a nationwide network of Bupa owned or Bupa recognised dental centres. By signing up to the Bupa Dental Insurance Network you’ll join an exclusive group of dental practices which offers Bupa dental insurance customers quality care and discounts on treatment.

Benefits of recognition

Bupa recognition can help you build and promote your practice. It enables you to:
• raise the profile of your practice through your personal page on Finder, our online directory of Bupa recognised healthcare professionals and healthcare services, which is used by our customers, GPs and the public, and receives 70,000 visits a week

• receive agreed fees for the care and treatment that you provide to our customers

• access to our Providers Online website to make running your private practice simple and straight forward.

Joining criteria

By joining the Bupa Dental Insurance Network you agree to:

• Make sure at least one dentist and all hygienists (if applicable) at your practice offer Bupa dental insurance patients the network discount (either 20% or 10%) on your standard prices for all general dental treatment. You can find a list of procedures which are included in the network discount in schedule 2 of the Terms and Conditions.


• Complete direct settlement of Bupa customers’ claims if we ask you to do so


• Take part in audits from time to time if we ask.

You may also agree to opt in to become a “full refund” practice. This means that Bupa patients with certain dental insurance policies will be guaranteed they won’t have to pay any shortfalls on their preventative dental treatment (provide it’s covered by their policy). You can find a list of procedures included in the full refund in schedule 3 of the Terms and Conditions.

Network entry criteria

We recognise the practice as a whole, rather than the individual dentists and hygienists (if applicable).

To make sure that our customers receive treatment in line with standards set by the General Dental Council (GDC) and other relevant regulatory bodies, all dental clinicians at practices need to:

• be registered with the General Dental Council

• evidence that they have adequate and appropriate indemnity insurance to cover any treatments that the relevant clinician provides

• have access to training and evidence of up-to-date Continual Professional Development in line with the GDC’s standards for Continuing Professional Development

• follow the GDC published ‘Standards for the Dental Team’

• follow the policy of preventative dentistry and work according to published guidance from the GDC

• confirm that clinicians planning to treat Bupa customers have completed within the last three years an:

- enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate (UK, Wales and Channel Islands) and the appropriate child or adult barring list check relevant to the patients to be treated; or

- an AccessNI enhanced certificate or an AccessNI basic if self employed (Northern Ireland), or a Disclosure Scotland enhanced disclosure.

• provide patients with a written treatment plan with a breakdown of costs before treatment commences; and
• have a documented process for the investigation of adverse incidents and/or complaints of a serious clinical nature.

Before you apply

You can apply for Bupa recognition online in four simple steps which should take 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of your practice.

Step one

Familiarise yourself with the benefits and requirements of the Dental Insurance Network.

Step two

Please review the terms and conditions.

We’ll take it that you agree to the Terms and Conditions for joining the Bupa Dental Insurance Network, if you apply for Bupa recognition.

Step three

Gather the information you need.

You’ll find it easier to complete your application if you have the following information to hand:

- the name and address of your practice(s)
- details of all your clinicians wishing to treat Bupa customers
- the prices that you charge


Confidentiality Guidelines

We’ll only use the information you submit to us as part of this process for the purposes of this application, and in our ongoing relationship in the event that your practice becomes Bupa recognised.

We’ve indicated in the application form which information may be shared with Bupa customers on a Bupa website and through other media. You have the opportunity to give your permission for this as you complete the application form.

Step four

  
We’ll send you an on screen message to confirm we’ve received your completed application. Once we’ve received your application and supporting documents, we’ll process them. We aim get back to you within 2 working days, but in busy periods it may take longer.

Your recognition begins on the day you’re added to Bupa’s list of network practices. We’ll send you an email to let whether your application has been accepted.

Preparation

Before starting your application, you'll find it helpful to gather the following information about your practice and the dental practitioners that work there:

  • Care Quality Commission (or equivalent national regulator) registration details

  • your dental practitioners' General Dental Council numbers

  • prices charged




Completion tips

Completing the application will take about 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of your practice.

All questions are compulsory. Please select 'NA' wherever a question does not apply.

If you're unable to complete your application in one session click the 'save' button at the bottom of the screen and save the link. You can return to it any time.

Before you submit your application please check it to ensure it's accurate and complete. You should also read our standard terms as they, along with the information you provide, will form the basis of your contract with us. If you apply for Bupa recognition, we'll take this as confirmation that you agree to these terms.

Once you're happy with the information in your application, click the 'submit' button on the final page to send it to us. You'll receive confirmation on the screen that we've received your application, along with an email which contains the Bupa Dental Insurance Network terms and conditions, and a summary of the information you have provided.

Next Steps

We'll review your application and, so long as it meets the criteria, we'll send you a secure email offering you Bupa recognition and explaining the next steps.

We'll only use the information you send us for the purposes of this application and to manage our relationship if you join the Bupa Dental Insurance Network. The application form explains which information may be shared with Bupa customers, on our website and through our other media. You can accept or decline this when you complete the application form, and you can update your information after you've completed your application.

We'll share information that is commercially sensitive with you during this application process and we reserve all copyright. Any discussions between us about this application will also be in confidence.
